I have put some links up on the “Additional Resources” page as well today. Of most use will be the links to some documentaries along with supporting student question sheets. I have uploaded the question sheets in MS Word to make it easier for people to change them to their own taste.

Please find on the “Answering IB-style Questions” page some sample data response questions covering topics in International Economics and an additional model essay concerned with the allocation of resources in a market economy.

I will be posting some model commentaries on the appropriate page (“Completing Internal Assessment) in the next day or two as well. Slowly, slowly…

After reflecting on a discussion with an IB colleague, I have decided to post up the PDF files for the book (see the relevant page above). I have done this because I don’t see how I will be harmed by it – at ten dollars per copy (inclusive of shipping) to anywhere in the world, it is still less expensive for schools to order a nice printed copy (with an attractive cover) than to make a photocopy of the PDF files. As well, as a write-in workbook, I would think that the book still makes more sense as a printed product than as an electronic file for most users. Lastly, I have already had to send the PDFs out to some schools in countries with corrupt postal/customs services, so by releasing the files in this way I hope that other schools and students in similar situations might be able to benefit.

A couple of days ago Tom Smith, who teaches at Chatsworth International School in Singapore, sent me the following message which he was kind enough to let me post below (although I chose to remove the reference to an alternative textbook):

Bryce, I am doing micro with my IB1’s and they love your workbook – straight forward, understandable, and certainly covers what is needed. They also think it is fun. Certainly a better book to work with than ___________ which puts most of my kids off.
Having the answers also allows the better kids to go on at their own pace and allows me more time to spend with the weaker kids.

An 45-page PDF file with the solutions to the entire book’s questions was sent out on Wednesday. If you did not receive this email message (with attachment), please write to me and I will send it to you as soon as I can.

Today I sent the solutions for the exercises on pages 1 through 86 out to teachers using the book with students as well as to some individuals. I will be finishing the solutions for the entire book over the next couple of weeks at which time I will send them out to everyone who has ordered copies. If you would like the solutions that were sent today but have not received them, please write to me at bryce@brycemcbride.com and I will send them to you right away.

I will continue to get exercises and model answers up on the website over the next few weeks as well. My goal is to have the book completely supported by the end of October so please check in once in a while to see what’s new. Thank you for your patience.
