Teaching Experience
I am presently teaching economics, geography and mathematics at Selwyn House School, a private boys’ school in Montreal. While working with International Schools Group in Saudi Arabia, I taught middle school social studies at Taif Academy and grade 6 classroom at Asir Academy. I taught middle and high school mathematics and social studies while serving at The Ifrane School in Morocco. In my 2 years at the Overseas Family School in Singapore, I taught a mixture of I.G.C.S.E. mathematics and economics and middle school math. During my 4 years at the Canadian International School, Singapore, I taught economics, geography and accounting to the Ontario Academic Credit (pre-university) level as well as grades 9 and 10 mathematics. As a charter member of the staff at C.I.S., I also had to develop the courses taught in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines.
Leadership Experience
Currently I am serving as the head of the geography department at Selwyn House School. I did not hold leadership positions with either International Schools Group or The Ifrane School. However, at both the Overseas Family School and the Canadian International School I had the privilege of serving as a department head, for middle school math (1995-1996) and high school social and business studies (1992-1994) respectively. Overseas Family School also sought and gained accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (W.A.S.C.) during my time there, and as part of that effort I was chosen to chair the kindergarten through grade 12 mathematics curriculum committee. Lastly, I served as principal of the summer program at the Canadian International School in 1993. In this role I was responsible for recruiting students, hiring staff, procuring materials and organising the timetable. The program had an enrolment of over 100 students in credit courses and 80 students in short 3 week intensive English courses, and employed a staff of 13.
Extracurricular Experience
I have led small musical ensembles, sports groups, school newspapers, students’ councils and a film appreciation club. I also organized a Careers Day that featured presentations by fifteen professionals. Most rewarding, though, were my experiences travelling with students to Australia’s Northern Territory in 1992 and New Zealand’s South Island in 1993. During my two years in Saudi Arabia, I was in charge of producing the school yearbooks. I worked with the School Annual Publishing Company the first year, and with the Walsworth Publishing Company the next. At Selwyn House School I am currently in charge of a stock-trading club that is participating in the Canadian Secondary School Stock Exchange Competition organised by Wilfred Laurier University. As well, the elementary principal and I have organised an entrepreneurship fair which will host grade 11 and grade 6 students from 5 participating schools in this, the event's inaugural year. I have also led our school's participation in the Great Canadian Geography Challenge in which last year, one of our students placed first in Quebec and 5th in Canada. Lastly, I have just taken on the responsibility of leading a team of students to participate in the Boston Model United Nations hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in late February.
